HC Deb 04 July 1980 vol 987 c760W
Mr. Spriggs

asked the Secretary of State for Employment if he will publish details of the numbers of men, women and school leavers who are signing the register for unemployment benefit as short-time workers employed for one, two, three or four days a week, respectively, in the St. Helens employment departmental area; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Jim Lester

[pursuant to his reply, 3 July 1980, c. 636]: During the week ended 12 June, the numbers of temporarily stopped people claiming unemployment benefit in the St. Helens employment office area were 19 males and one female. As school leavers, by definition have not been in employment they do not appear in these figures. Information about those employed for specific numbers of days in the week is not available.

At present 713 jobs are being supported under the temporary short-time working compensation scheme in the St. Helens employment office area.
