HL Deb 01 July 1980 vol 411 cc338-9WA
Lord BARNBY

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What plans they have, in view of the forecasts of widely increased use of motor cycles, to reduce the present intolerable noise generated by motorcycle exhausts to the degradation of the environment.

Lord MOWBRAY and STOURTON

We have circulated proposals to reduce the maximum permitted noise levels for motor cycles from 1983. A decision will be announced as soon as consideration of comments on these proposals has been completed.

My right honourable friend the Minister of Transport has also recently circulated a consultative memorandum seeking comment on the introduction of still more stringent limits for the mid-1980s onwards.
