HL Deb 01 July 1980 vol 411 cc339-40WA
Lord O'HAGAN

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they will make a statement about the taxation by the EEC of farmhouse cider and cider with an alcoholic content of less than 8½ per cent.

The MINISTER of STATE, TREASURY (Lord Cockfield)

Proposals for the harmonisation of excise duties on alcoholic drinks, including cider, are still under discussion: but the Commission has indicated a willingness to agree to the exclusion from these proposals of cider with an alcoholic content of less than 8.5 per cent.

House adjourned at nine minutes past nine o'clock.
