HC Deb 14 January 1980 vol 976 cc666-7W
Mr. Field

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will give details of the total number of employees in (a) full-time and (b) part-time work who are covered by (i) national insurance sickness scheme and (ii) by company sick-pay schemes; and if, of this latter total, he will list the number of company sick-pay schemes which give benefit below and at or above the worker's entitlement under the State scheme.

Mrs. Chalker

[pursuant to her reply 21 December 1979, c. 527]: An estimated 15.4 million full-time and 0–9 million part-time employees are covered for national insurance sickness benefit. An estimated 13.8 million full-time and 3.3 million part-time employees are in employment covered by employers' sick pay schemes. I regret that information is not available on the numbers of employers' schemes giving sick pay below, at, or above the level of sickness benefit.
