§ Mr. Cryerasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he proposes to institute a tote system for harness racing; and whether a representative for harness racing will sit on the proposed horseracing advisory council.
§ Mr. WhitelawThe Royal Commission on Gambling recommended that statutory provision should be made for totalisator facilities at harness race meetings. This is one of the recommendations which I am considering for inclusion in general legislation on gambling when time permits.
The horseracing advisory council is being set up by the racing industry and I have no responsibility for its composition.
