HC Deb 26 February 1980 vol 979 c490W
Q23. Mr. Arthur Lewis

asked the Prime Minister how many letters she has received, during the longest period for which figures are available; how many are replied to in person; and how long, on average, she takes to reply.

The Prime Minister

Since taking office I have received over 130,000 letters. We do not normally keep a count of the number of letters to which I reply personally, but last week it was over 100.

The time taken to reply depends on whether it is necessary to make inquiries into the particular case, but I aim to send as many replies as possible within two weeks.
