HC Deb 21 February 1980 vol 979 c347W
Mr. Maxwell-Hyslop

asked the Secretary of State for Defence whether, bearing in mind the implications in military law and the regulations governing pensions in the event of death and injury, members of the Armed Forces of the United Kingdom serving under the Governor of Rhodesia in the Commonwealth Observation Forces are or are not in law on active service.

Mr. Speed

British military personnel who are serving as members of the Commonwealth monitoring force in Southern Rhodesia are not on active service. The concept of "active service" does not figure in the regulations governing the payment of pensions in the event of death or injury.
