HC Deb 21 February 1980 vol 979 c307W
Mr. Heddle

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if he will list the criteria to be fulfilled for a FEOGA grant for the construction of new abattoir premises under EEC regulation 355/77.

Mr. Buchanan-Smith

The main criteria are that the project must improve the efficiency of slaughtering and must guarantee lasting economic benefits to livestock producers. To qualify for the full rate of FEOGA, grant—25 per cent—the project must fall within the United Kingdom's red meat slaughterhouse improvement programme; a condition of this is that the project must attract United Kingdom financial support through the red meat slaughterhouse industry scheme under the Industry Act 1972. In addition, the premises must meet the standards laid down in EEC directive 64/433 on intra Community trade in fresh meat.
