HC Deb 20 February 1980 vol 979 c254W
Mr. Frank Allaun

asked the Secretary of State for Defence if he will make a statement about the Army's plans to use chemical weapons against Russia; and what training in their use is being given at the Staff College, Camberley.

Mr. Pym

There are no such plans; the United Kingdom has no capability for offensive chemical warfare. But the Government do take very seriously the possession by Soviet forces of large quantities of chemical weapons. Officers at the Staff College, Camberley are instructed in the effects of chemical weapons on the battlefield to enable them to conduct an effective defence against the use of chemical weapons by an aggressor.
