HL Deb 18 February 1980 vol 405 cc560-1WA
Baroness VICKERS

asked Her Majesty's Government:

How much money has been received from the EEC by the United Kingdom since entry in 1973, how much has gone to each region of the United Kingdom and for what purposes the money has been spent.

The MINISTER of STATE, TREASURY (Lord Cockfield)

Public sector receipts by the United Kingdom from the principal sectors of the EEC Budget since entry in 1973 up to the end of 1979 have been as follows:

£ million 1973–79
European Agricultural Guarantee and Guidance Fund (EAGGF):
Guarantee Section 1,536
Guidance Section 87
Social Fund 244
Regional Development Fund 195
Refund of "own resources" collection costs 386
Miscellaneous 34
Total 2,482

I regret that regional breakdowns of receipts under these categories are not readily available, but a regional analysis of investment grants financed under the Guidance Section of the EAGGF and separately under the Regional Development Fund is published in Regional Statistics(HMSO).
