HC Deb 13 February 1980 vol 978 c698W
Mr. Ron Brown

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland how many private tenants in Scotland receive a rent allowance or rebate; what is the average sum involved; and what were the total amounts paid out for the last two years.

Mr. Rifkind

The number of allowances paid to private tenants (within the meaning of section 16 of the Housing (Financial Provisions) (Scotland) Act 1972), and the amounts involved, are:

£ £
1977 18,396 92.73 1,705,861
1978 18,703 104.33 1,951,284

More details, and figures for rent rebates to public sector tenants, are published in Scottish Housing Statistics, numbers 1 and 5, copies of which are available in the Library of the House. Information for 1979 will be published in a forthcoming issue of Scottish Housing Statistics.
