HC Deb 06 February 1980 vol 978 c260W
Mr. Ernie Ross

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will publish the amount of tax rebate received following the Budget last year by the persons or grades mentioned in the Boyle report on top salaries.

Mr. Peter Rees

Appendix D to report No. 11 of the Boyle report on top salaries gives some 39 salary levels, and the amount of the reduction in tax at each level would depend on the tax allowances of the individual. Examples of the amounts that would have been received by a married man with no other allowances are as follows:—

Annual salary Reduction in tax in 1979–80 compared with tax on same salary at 1978–79 rates and allowances
£ £
15,000 1,038
20,000 1,975
25,000 3,064
30,000 4,262
