asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many people have been deported for immigration offences since May 1979.

The number of persons deported under sections 3(5) and 3(6) of the Immigration Act during the period 1 May 1979 to 31 October 1980 was as follows:

Section 3(5)(a) 384
Section 3(5)(b) 122
Section 3(5)(c) 8
Section 3(6) 881

In addition 64 persons were removed after returning to the United Kingdom in breach of extant deportation orders.
