HC Deb 18 December 1980 vol 996 c305W
Mr. Skeet

asked the Minister of Transport, in view of the recommendations of the Armitage report on lorries, people and the environment, if he will now accelerate the bypassing of the town of Bedford, including Kempston.

Mr. Kenneth Clarke

It is too soon to say what decisions will be taken on the Armitage report. I understand that Bedfordshire county council intends to construct a relief road for Kempston in the reasonably near future. We are studying, jointly with the county council, the possibilities of a more extensive relief road for Bedford.
