HC Deb 04 December 1980 vol 995 c151W
Mr. George

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if, in the light of events, he will dismiss the board of the Horserace Totalisator Board, including its chairman.

Mr. Whitelaw

No.

Mr. Freud

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he will seek to amend the Betting, Gaming and Lotteries Act 1963 so as to require ministerial approval for severance payments in excess of £69,000 to totalisator board executives.

Mr. Whitelaw

No. There are no grounds for departing from the normal practice that controls of this kind are not imposed on an organisation which is not financed out of public funds.

Mr. Freud

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what is the projected profit of the totalisator for the current year; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Whitelaw

I understand that it is not the practice of the Tote Board to publish forecasts of profits.
