asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what is his latest estimate of the percentage of the total food consumed in the United Kingdom which is imported; and what proportion of this comes from other European Economic Community countries.

Mr. Buchanan-Smith

In 1979, 48 percent by value of all food consumed in the United Kingdom was imported, and approximately 40 per cent. of these imports came from other member States of the European Community.
