HC Deb 04 December 1980 vol 995 c143W
Mr. Freud

asked the Secretary of State for Trade whether he is satisfied with the current cassette copyright agreements in respect of royalties to actors and authors

Mr. Eyre

With one exception, all current cassette agreements in respect of royalties to actors and authors are matters for private negotiation between the parties. The exception is the royalty payable to the owner of copyright in a musical work when the work is recorded for a second or subsequent time; in this case the rate is fixed by statute.

There is provision for reviewing the rate of the statutory royalty if it appears to be no longer equitable. I have not, however, received any representations on this provision since it was last reviewed in 1976.
