§ Mr. RifkindBy statute, local fire authorities are responsible for providing fire cover in their areas. Contingency plans exist under which, should the need arise, they may obtain help to maintain emergency fire cover through the provision of fire-fighting appliances held by my Department, together with servicemen to operate them. These arrangements have been made known to fire authorities.
