HC Deb 06 August 1980 vol 990 c190W
Mr. Newens

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if any agreement has yet been reached on a contribution from central Government funds towards the cost of the repair and maintenance of housing assets transferred from development corporations and the new towns Commission to local authorities in the new towns; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Stanley

I refer the hon. Member to the reply I gave on 29 July to my hon. Friend the Member for Woolwich, West (Mr. Bottomley) on the new housing subsidy system.—[Vol. 989, c. 631–32] In the light of the proposal that reckonable expenditure on repairs and maintenance should be brought within the system, we are considering what arrangements may be necessary for former new town housing and will be writing to the Association of District Councils shortly.
