§ Mrs. Dunwoodyasked the Lord Privy Seal what efforts are made to monitor the use of aid being sent to East Timor, either directly by the British authorities or by the European Community; and if he is satisfied that supplies are reaching those areas of East Timor where they are most needed.
§ Mr. HurdThe Government have sent no aid to East Timor. The European Community contributed 90 tonnes of skimmed milk to last year's appeal by the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC). Supervision of the aid is undertaken by the ICRC which has reported regularly on the progress of the relief operation and have expressed satisfaction at the co-operation extended by the Indonesian authorities.
§ Mrs. Dunwoodyasked the Lord Privy Seal what information he has about the conditions of those people who are at present in camps in East Timor.
§ Mr. HurdWe have no information about the conditions in the camps, but various reports, including those of the International Committee of the Red Cross, suggest that general conditions in East Timor are improving.
