asked Her Majesty's Government:

Under what powers agricultural and horticultural capital grants are paid at present; and when these powers lapse.

Lord SANDYS

Capital grants are currently available to farmers and growers under the following provisions:—

  1. (a) The Farm Capital Grant Scheme 1973 (as amended) and the Horticulture Capital Grant Scheme 1973 (as amended) which are made under Section 29 of the Agriculture Act 1970. The last date I on which applications may be accepted under both is 31st December 1980.

  3. (b) The Agriculture and Horticulture Co-operation Scheme 1971 (as amended) which is made under Section 61 of the Agriculture Act 1967; the period in respect of which grant is payable has recently been extended until 14th May 1983.
  4. (c) The Farm and Horticulture Development Regulations 1978 (as amended), which are made under Section 2(2) of the European Communities Act 1972 and give effect to Directive 72/159/EEC. Applications may be accepted under these regulations until 18th April 1982.
  5. (d) Statutory Instruments 928, 929 and 930, which were laid before Parliament on 8th July, are intended to close the Schemes at (a) and (c) above to new applications as from 1st October 1980.
