Mr. Biggs-Davison

asked the Secretary tary of State for Northern Ireland if he will arrange for Sir Derek Rayner to survey the administration and non-departmental public bodies of Northern Ireland and to make recommendations.

Sir Derek Rayner is already assisting my officials in reviewing aspects of the administration in Northern Ireland as part of the general exercise in efficiency with which he is helping Ministers.

The recent review of non-departmental public bodies conducted by Sir Leo Pliatzky included examining 132 such bodies in Northern Ireland for which my right hon. Friend is responsible. Action has been taken in a number of cases and the review is continuing. I am satisfied that additional measures are not required at present.
