asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether the salaries of members of the boards of certain nationalised industries have recently been or are about to be increased; and if so, what is or would he the salary of:

  1. (1) the chairman of the National Coal Board;
  2. (2) the chairman of British Rail; and
  3. (3) the chairman of the British Steel Corporation, before and after such changes.

Chairmen and members of the boards of nationalised industries on 1st April 1980 received the third stage of salary increases staged since April 1978. These salaries are now at the levels recommended for 1st April 1979 in the Review Body on Top Salaries' Report No. 11 (Cmnd. 7576). The particular rates for which the noble Baroness asked are as follows:—
