HL Deb 21 April 1980 vol 408 c632WA
Lord AVEBURY

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Why the report of the Working Party on Lead, under the chairmanship of Professor P. J. Lawther, omits any discussion on the hazards to the unborn child.

Lord CULLEN of ASHBOURNE

The working party assessed the available evidence on this important subject in paragraph 206 of their report, and drew attention to the need for further research into pre-natal exposure to lead and its relationship to the subsequent mental and physical development of the child. The study referred to in paragraph 121 of the working party's report may he expected to yield further information on the intake of lead in infants up to the age of 10 weeks and a further study on the same group of children to investigate their subsequent development is planned.
