HC Deb 21 April 1980 vol 983 c71W
Mr. Peter Robinson

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what consideration he gave to the rules of the Gaelic Athletic Association when granting it money from public funds.

Mr. Goodhart

Capital grant sums to voluntary sporting clubs are paid by the Department of Education for Northern Ireland at different rates. The lower rates are paid to clubs with restricted membership. The rules of the Gaelic Athletic Association place restrictions upon the membership of clubs affiliated to it and grants are therefore made to these clubs at the lower rates.
