HC Deb 21 April 1980 vol 983 c71W
Mr. Michael Brown

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland how many arrests were made by the security forces in Northern Ireland during the period from Thursday 3 to Monday 14 April.

Mr. Humphrey Atkins

The total number of arrests in Northern Ireland for whatever reason during the period 3 April to 14 April is not readily available, and could not be obtained without disproportionate cost. However, the number of arrests made by the Royal Ulster Constabulary during the period under the Northern Ireland (Emergency Provisions) Act 1978 and the Prevention of Terrorism (Temporary Provisions) Act 1976 was 68. The number of arrests made by the Army during the same period was 34.
