HC Deb 17 April 1980 vol 982 c721W
Mr. Marlow

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what is the relationship between the additional food cost of £35 per person arising from EEC membership and the cost over world prices of imports from the EEC of £3.76 per person.

Mr. Peter Walker

Any figure per head as to the total extra cost of food in the United Kingdom as a result of the CAP depends upon what assumptions are made, and I do not know the assumptions upon which my hon. Friend bases his £35. The estimate of £3.76 per person reflects that part of the additional cost which arises on our net imports of food from the Community and which is not reflected in our contribution to the Community budget.
