HC Deb 14 April 1980 vol 982 c467W
Mr. Ernie Ross

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what is the complement of nursing staff in the National Health Service in Scotland; and what is the actual number employed.

Mr. Fairgrieve

It is not possible to give a theoretical nursing complement for the National Health Service in Scotland. At 30 September 1979, the number of nurses employed was 66,338; expressed as whole-time equivalents the number was 56,037.
