HC Deb 03 April 1980 vol 982 cc355-6W
Mr. Banks

asked the Secretary of State for Trade whether he is continuing to monitor the agreement reached between the previous Government and the Brewers' Society on public house swaps and the exchange of draught ales.

Mrs. Sally Oppenheim

The Government have decided that it would be in accordance with the general duties of the

case of the United States of America. There is no duty on imports from the European Community. VAT is levied at the rate of 15 per cent. Imports of poly-amide carpet yarn (ex 651:41) are restricted from the United States of America. As regards the last part of the question I would draw the hon. Member's attention to the statement made to the House on 18 February 1980 by my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Trade.—[Vol. 979, c. 30].

Director General of Fair Trading under section 2 of the Fair Trading Act 1973 for the Government to discontinue their own monitoring of the agreement between the Brewers' Society and the previous Administration on pub swaps and draught ales; it will be for the Director General to keep the competitive position in the industry under surveillance.
