HL Deb 03 April 1980 vol 407 c1480WA
Lord FERRIER

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether the BBC's recent programme "Gone for a Soldier" has been sold for exhibition by any other medium at home or abroad and, if so, whether the relative provisions of Clause 12 of the Licence and Agreement have been fulfilled.

Lord BELSTEAD

I understand that the BBC has decided not to repeat this programme or sell it abroad. Clause 12 of the Licence and Agreement provides that the BBC may not, without the consent of the Secretary of State for the Home Department, take advertising, and it prohibits sponsored programmes. It does not apply to the sale of BBC programmes which is authorised by Article 3(n) of the BBC's Royal Charter.
