§ Sir Derek Walker-Smithasked the Prime Minister if she will examine the possibility of transferring the planning inspectorate from the Department of the Environment to the Lord Chancellor's Department, in order to enhance its authority and independence.
§ The Prime MinisterThe planning inspectorate, whose function is administrative, not judicial, now provides a common service for the Department of the Environment and the Department of Transport. I am satisfied that this is right.
