HC Deb 28 November 1979 vol 974 cc706-7W
Mr. Alton

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what will be the benefits of switching from sell-by date marking to eat-by date marking; what is the anticipated cost of reducing shelf-life; and if he intends to implement the EEC direction on product labelling.

Mr. Wiggin

The Council of Ministers agreed the directive on the labelling of foodstuffs in December 1978 and my right hon. Friend will shortly be issuing proposals to implement it for comment by those affected. I would not expect shelf-life to be reduced.
