HC Deb 27 November 1979 vol 974 c590W
Mr. Freud

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department (1) whether he will publish in the Official Report the wavebands which would be available to community radio without disrupting the existing transmissions;

(2) when he now expects to receive the third report of the working party on local radio; whether this report will make further proposals on community radio; and if the report will be published.

Mr. Whitelaw

The most suitable frequencies are the medium—MF—and very high frequency—VHF—bands. These already contain United Kingdom network radio services, local radio stations and European domestic services. The scope for introducing low powered local radio stations within these bands without impairing existing transmissions is to be examined by the Home Office local radio working party, whose report will be published in due course.
