The definitive Scottish study is still that on which a report was published in 1969. It compared the dental health of children in Kilmarnock and Ayr. The dental health of children in Kilmarnock showed a marked improvement during the period of fluoridation there and a progressive deterioration after fluoridation ceased in 1962.
