HC Deb 12 November 1979 vol 973 c413W
Mr. Brotherton

asked the Secretary of State for Industry what public funds have been paid to a group of trades unionists to finance a study trip to the United States of America to study the silicon chip industry; what was the numerical strength of the delegation; who were its members; how long it lasted; and what report was made to the Department at its end.

Mr. David Mitchell

The precise call on public funds of the TUC microelectronics study trip to the United States of America has yet to be worked out but will be under £15,000. The following members of the TUC economic committee made the study visit: Mr. D. Basnett, Mr. F. Chapple, Mr. K. Gill, Mr. J. Gormley, Mr. C. Jenkins, Mr. W. Sirs, Mr. D. Lea and Mr. B. Callaghan. The visit took place between 13 and 20 October. We have received reports on the outcome from our posts and the TUC has submited a report on the visit to NEDC.
