§ Sir George YoungOur policies on patterns of psychiatric care in England are broadly those set out in the 1975 White Paper "Better Services for the Mentally Ill". The levels of in-patient care proposed in the White Paper are those needed in a district where the new pattern of services is complete. In a foreword the then Secretary of State stressed that the time taken to achieve this pattern everywhere must depend on the economic progress of the country. My right hon. Friend endorses her views.
