§ Mr. Barry Jonesasked the Secretary of State for Wales what is the estimated date of the consultants' report on the Deeside river road study; what is the latest estimated cost of the study; what is the brief to which the consultants are working; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. Michael RobertsI assume that the hon. Member is referring to the North-East Clwyd traffic study. Consultants were appointed in March 1978 to carry out a detailed study of traffic requirements in North-East Clwyd with a view to determining the best way of improving the highway network in the area and links to the English motorway system to meet long-term needs. An interim report is nearing completion; depending on its conclusions, there may be a requirement for further work, in which case a final report should be available in the autumn. The estimated cost of the study, on the assumption that further work follows the interim report, is about £150,000. I understand that the Clwyd county council will be giving further consideration to the need for a new county road alongside the river Dee when conclusions have been reached on the trunk road network.
