HL Deb 22 May 1979 vol 400 c432WA
Lord VAIZEY

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Why the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, were closed to the public on Bank Holiday, 7th May 1979, and whether this practice is to continue in future years.

The MINISTER of STATE, MINISTRY of AGRICULTURE, FISHERIES and FOOD (Earl Ferrers)

The Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, were closed to the public on the May Day bank holiday in 1979, as they were in 1978, to allow staff at the Gardens to enjoy the benefits of a bank holiday. The Gardens are open to the public on every day of the year except Christmas Day, New Year's Day and May Day bank holiday. The practice in future years is being reconsidered.
