HC Deb 21 May 1979 vol 967 c33W
Mr. Richard Shepherd

asked the Secretary of State for Employment if he will make a statement of his policy on job creation schemes and other measures to sustain employment.

Mr. Jim Lester

As stated in the Queen's Speech, the Government's policy on maintaining and increasing employment is to restore incentives, encourage efficiency and create a climate in which commerce and industry can flourish. This will help to bring into existence more real jobs.

We shall be reviewing which special employment measures shall be retained, taking account of their cost-effectiveness and the public expenditure implications, but my right hon. Friend is not yet in a position to make a statement on them.
