asked the Secretary of State for Employment to what extent an introduction of a general three-day working week would save money on travel and fuel costs; and whether he will cause a study to be made of such arrangements.

Estimates of savings on travel and fuel costs under a three-day working week would depend on the assumption to be made about output, technology and overtime. A number of possibilities for worksharing are under study in an EEC context. The Commission will be reporting to the next
