Mr. Anthony Grant

asked the Secretary of State for Employment if he will give the reasons why it is not yet possible to indicate the groups which possess the necessary pre-conditions for reference to the Standing Commission on Pay Comparability.

Mr. Harold Walker,

pursuant to his reply [Official Report, 26 March 1979; Vol. 965, c. 17–18], gave the following information:

Because, as my right hon. Friend the Prime Minister made clear in his statement on 7 March, the Government will make references to the Standing Commission only with the agreement of the employers and unions. I am not in a position to say for which groups this precondition will be met.
