HC Deb 23 March 1979 vol 964 c173W
Mr. Maxwell-Hyslop

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what would be the current cost of doubling the 25p allowance granted to persons over 80 years in lieu of tobacco coupons.

Mr. Orme

The current cost of doubling the 25p age addition for retirement and supplementary pensioners over 80 would be £19 million in a full year. The age addition was introduced in 1971 and was not related to the discontinuance of tobacco coupons, which took place in 1958.
