HC Deb 23 March 1979 vol 964 cc124-5W
38. Mr. David Price

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what advice her Department is giving to local education authorities on the maximum and minimum sizes for comprehensive secondary schools without a sixth form, where all 16-plus needs are catered for elsewhere.

Miss Margaret Jackson

Before approving any proposals for comprehensive schools submitted to her, the Secretary of State would wish to be satisfied that the organisation adopted makes for a sensible use of exising buildings and available resources and that the educational and pastoral needs of the children can be met. Every proposal is considered on its merits in the light of local circumstances and no general advice has therefore been issued to local education authorities on the maximum and minimum sizes for schools.
