HC Deb 19 March 1979 vol 964 c424W
Mr. Kenneth Clarke

asked the Secretary of State for Industry whether the European Commission has approved the Government aid to be given to launch the British Aerospace 146 feeder airliner.

Mr. Les Huckfield

Since no Government aid is being given to the launch of the BAe 146, the question of Commission approval does not arise.

Mr. Tebbit

asked the Secretary of State for Industry what estimates he has made of prospective losses on the BAeC 146 and A310 programmes.

Mr. Les Huckfield

My Department made many estimates based on a range of assumptions as to the number of sales, prices, costs, exchange rates and other relevant factors.

The Government took these estimates into account, together with all relevant wider considerations when backing British Aerospace's commercial judgment on the two projects.
