HC Deb 12 March 1979 vol 964 cc60-1W
Mr. Lee

asked the Minister of Overseas Development how many overseas aid projects currently being financed or assisted by the United Kingdom relate to forestry, how many to land reclamation from the sea or marsh areas, how many to erosion prevention and how many to desert reclamation; what is the percentage of total United Kingdom overseas aid devoted to all projects of this kind; and what were the corresponding figures and percentages for 1959 and 1969.

Mrs. Hart

The information readily available relates to projects aid expenditure in 1977. In that year the Ministry financed 11 projects relating to forestry at a cost of £2,436,000 and five relating to erosion prevention at a cost of £63,000. There were no projects specifically concerned with land reclamation. The total cost of £2,499,000 represented 1.8 per cent. of bilateral project aid expenditure.

In addition, 22 forestry research schemes were supported at a cost of £379,000.

Corresponding information for the years 1959 and 1969 is not available.
