HC Deb 12 March 1979 vol 964 c61W
Mr. Ashley

asked the Minister of Overseas Development if she will set up a study group to investigate the differences in the marketing of British medical drugs at home and in underdeveloped countries and to suggest ways of obtaining uniform standards.

Mr. Moyle

I have been asked to reply.

No. It is not for the Government to dictate to other Governments, who alone know the local circumstances, how they should control the marketing of any products even those as important as drugs.

If developing countries should seek help in designing or implementing quality control programmes or advertising codes, the Government would of course be prepared to consider such assistance.
