HL Deb 06 March 1979 vol 399 cc170-1WA
Lord WINSTANLEY

asked Her Majesty's Government: What steps they are taking to assist Area Health Authorities and nursing organisations with the financial burdens imposed on them by EEC Directives 77/452 and 77/453 concerning nursing education.

Lord WELLS-PESTELL

My right honourable friend the Secretary of State for Social Services has made it clear that he would not expect the direct and unavoidable consequences of EEC Directives 77/452 and 77/453, on the mutual recognition of qualifications of nurses responsible for general care, to be appreciable in resource terms. The question of taking steps to assist Area Health Authorities and nursing organisations to meet the financial consequences of those Directives does not therefore arise.
