* In the case of Naval hospitals the figures for NHS patients include Service dependants.
From 1 April 1975 the hospital was run entirely on behalf of the NHS.

I regret that it is not possible to provide a breakdown by speciality. Comprehensive figures for NHS out-patients are not readily available, but, in the case of the Royal Naval hospitals at Haslar and Plymouth, the figures for 1978 were of the order of 45,000 and 40,000 respectively.
