HC Deb 05 March 1979 vol 963 c593W
Sir George Young

asked the Secretary of State for Energy whether he will increase the authorised retail price of paraffin, in the light of the withdrawal of trade discounts by the major oil companies.

Dr. John Cunningham

Earlier this month the Price Commission allowed the oil companies increases in the wholesale prices of their petroleum products including premium paraffin. The Government decided to allow the maximum retail prices of premium paraffin to be increased correspondingly by 6 pence gallon. An order amending the controlled prices was laid before Parliament on Monday 26 February and the increased prices came into effect from 27 February.
