Mr. Maurice Macmillan

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what is the average length of stay of patients in hospitals who use (a) amenity beds, (b) private beds in National Health Service hospitals, and (c) other hospital beds, excluding geriatric and pychiatric hospitals.

Following are the average lengths of stay of patients in all NHS hospitals in England other than geriatric and psychiatric hospitals

Amenity beds 8.7 days
Private beds 6.6 days
Other hospital beds 11.9 days
